Reading and Understanding Medieval Rites

The lecture delivered this afternoon (03.11.16 @15:15) by Prof Sarah Hamilton (U. of Exeter) was inspiring. She discussed the importance of working with liturgical texts and the difficulties of dealing with them. She analysed a number of similar ad hod formulae for excommunication, which provided forms of maledictions against the person being anathematised. They are found mainly in texts and manuscripts produced in 10th and 11th centuries. Sarah’s lecture was followed by a brief response by Dr Rob Meens and by lively discussions of the audience which counted with presence of academic staff and students.
